French Immersion Parents Association
The French Immersion Parents Association was created in 1992/93 in response to the then Etobicoke District School Board intending on cutting the French Immersion program in their schools. Years later, Etobicoke amalgamated with Toronto, FIPA joined up with Canadian Parents for French (CPF), and a separate French Advisory Committee to the School Board (FSLAC) was created which includes Reps from all across Toronto. FIPA’s role has changed from being a direct link from the parents to the School Board, to being one of parent/student support and a respected resource for information.
With the addition of Junior Extended French programs in the Etobicoke area, FIPA realized that their name is not inclusive to all FSL programs. So considering this, plus their change of role which continues to evolve into one of a purely resourceful nature, they have embraced their partnership with Canadian Parents for French and changed their name to “CPF Toronto West”, exclusively. Everything will otherwise stay exactly the same as before, and they thank the Etobicoke FSL parents for their exceptional involvement and interest in their child’s French education.
